ONLY 17

The rockets’ red glare
I, never there
Was my country cheated
One year too young ?
Or shall I count my blessings
I didn’t return spun?
I listen to friends
yet cannot relate
to motars and bullets
flesh that’s been raked
Pain and suffering
of pals left behind,
their brothers, my countrymen
forever love binds.
On this the celebration
 of 4th of July
my hats off to those
both home or behind.
May God Bless you all
our Heros and knights
over our country
our Flag
Freedom lights !
I have often wondered at my contribution to our Great country. Although too young to have served in South East Asia the majority of my current peer group did. It wasn't until my great friend KK returned from the motorcycle journey "Run To The Wall" that he began to open to his experiance, fears and pain of those he wondered about (did they get home?). Married to an Army veteran, brother and son to USCG & USAF veterans, I thank God for their selfless sacrafice to our country and insuring our freedom. May GOD BLESS them and all those who have and are serving!
